5 main factors to start learning Arabic

Arabic is used as a means of public communication in the writing of formal texts such as press, literature, political speech, education etc. Like every subject, Arabic requires willpower and other essential means to learn it. Thus, discover 5 main factors to start learning Arabic.

1. Learn the Arabic alphabet

Completely different from English, the Arabic language requires learning the 28 letters with the correct phonetics and pronunciation, so it is probably time to use a textbook or digital medium to learn better.

2. Use an Arabic language dictionary

A word in Arabic is constructed with a root = source, to have a new word with a meaning close to the first word, letters are added to the root, for example, the root of the word “كَتَبَ” is (ktb-) this root means “writing “.

Although it is difficult for those, who are used to searching words in alphabetical order, knowing this structure will make it easier to consult a dictionary.

Indeed, for a learner who uses an Arabic-English dictionary, it is advisable to use two dictionaries, one following the word’s alphabetical order and the other following the root of Arabic words.

3. The learning mode

You should know that language is not just words but, rather, a marriage between lexicon and syntax. Try to use everything you learn in your daily life and think of it in Arabic and not in your mother tongue.

It is always good to use audio materials that teach the Arabic language because listening is essential for learning a language properly and creating familiarity with it. It is also necessary to learn at least one word every day and use it throughout the day to memorize it.

4. Practice the Arabic language

The Arab community is certainly extensive, especially in England. It is directly or emotionally linked to the Arabic language. The best way to learn and practice Arabic is to always speak with native Arabic speakers.

It is always useful to spend 20 to 40 minutes talking about any subject in Arabic and expressing yourself in Arabic to remove the fear of error from your mind and create some familiarity.

With the tongue in a small period. With practice, we can distinguish the difference between the 3 types of Arabic language: literary, Koranic and dialect.

To practice these 3 types, it is enough to learn modern literary Arabic to have a good base and build a solid foundation in the Arabic language.

5. We must also avoid

The use of phonetic interpretation, even at the beginning of training or occasionally, both for the literal and for the dialect, is an outdated practice at a certain time when printing systems did not facilitate the synthesis in two different graphic systems.

When we write, for example, “اللُغَةُ العَرَبِيَّةُ“. A phonetic system gives this: “al-lugha al-Arabiya“, which results in the level of pronunciation completely different from that of the Arabic language.

The problem here is that some letters and, therefore, some sounds do not exist in English or any other Latin language in Arabic. This is what makes phonetic writing obsolete at this level.

Also, to learn a language, the brain needs to associate sounds and letters with a picture. Since phonetics is written in the Latin language, one cannot learn the Arabic language directly. This weakens the learner’s level of writing and creates confusion between Arabic and the Latin language.
