What does Baraka mean in Islam?

Baraka is an Islamic concept that every Muslim must integrate and assimilate in his daily life. Let’s see what it’s all about.

Thus, The blessing of God often translates by the baraka. Baraka’s definition is a spiritual blessing that can occur at any time in life. Indeed, the Baraka can happen at any time of life and in many areas: money, time, family, work, results, writings, effects on others, food, etc. Thus, there is no single method for obtaining the Baraka that the Qur’an and Sunnah describe. However, fundamental Islamic concepts lead to the Baraka for those who do it right and sincerely. Here is a small non-exhaustive list that could lead you to get this famous Barakah.

Allah’s consciousness

the surah al kahf - the cave is read every fridayNo man has ever feared Allah in any of his affairs without getting Allah’s blessing upon him. Indeed, Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

“And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision.” (72:16)

He also said:

“And if only the People of the Scripture had believed and feared Allah, We would have removed from them their misdeeds and admitted them to Gardens of Pleasure.” (5:65)

Make Du’a

The Muslim must constantly pray and make Thus, Du’a to Allah that He gives the Baraka touching his possessions, time, wife, children, and other affairs.

According to Urwa Al Bâriqi’s story:

“The Prophet ﷺ gave him a dinar to buy a sheep. He bought two sheep, sold one to a Dinar, and brought back to the Prophet a sheep and a Dinar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ implored Allah to bless his sales. Since that day, even though he was selling something insignificant, he was winning. All these blessings came because of the invocation of the Prophet ﷺ in his favor.” (Sahih Al Bukhari).

Be satisfied with your destiny

Imam Ahmad reports in his Musnad that Abu Al-Ala b. Ash-Shikhkhîr said:

“A man from the tribe of Banu Sulaym – and I think he really met the Prophet ﷺ  – told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:” Allah tests His servant by what He gives to Him. He who accepts with satisfaction the destiny that Allah has granted him, he blesses and makes him prosper. As for the one who does not find satisfaction, he will be deprived of this blessing. “

The key to a successful life is an attitude of gratitude. Thus, if you feel the Baraka in anything, thank Allah for it and not dwell on how and why. Accept it as a gift from Allah and do your best to use it in the best way that will naturally please Allah. Furthermore, the easiest way to express gratitude is to sincerely say Alhamdulilah (Praise be to Allah).

There no Baraka without being generous. Let’s discuss how our Prophet ﷺ was a very generous person.

The generosity of the Prophet ﷺ

Mosque of the Prophet Muhamad in Madina - the place of baraka and generosity

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is the best of Adam’s children. He had many qualities that we can not identify, but we will describe some of his wisdom in several parts, insha’Allah.

Allah said:

{There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.} (Surah 33: Verse 21).

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is our model, our example that we must follow.

Prophet’s generosity towards His community

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was endowed with a generosity that no one can claim to achieve. Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most generous of men. He was more lively during the month of Ramadan when Jibril (Gabriel) met him. He visited Him all the nights of Ramadan, and they revised the Qur’an together. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was then more generous than a fertile wind. He was “the most generous of men.”

Moreover, his request for intercession on the Day of Judgment is an example of His community’s generosity.

Indeed, It was reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“A wish is granted to every prophet that he has issued. I have reserved mine to intercede for my community on the Day of Resurrection.”

He has shown generosity to us by dedicating his wish to his community. No prophet before him has done it for his community, and no other Prophet will be able to do it.

Prophet’s generosity towards his companions

The Prophet PBUH was plenty of generousity and baraka

A woman came to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ with a woven cloak and said:

‘I wove it with my own hands to offer it to you. He needed it, so He dressed in that coat. Then one of the companions asked Allah’s Messenger ﷺ to offer him his coat, which He accepted. He went home to bend it and bring it to him. Other companions (RA) have reproached this request to their companion as follows: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has clothed him with need, and you dare to ask him knowing that he never refuses anything! – By Allah! He exclaimed; I did not ask him to put it on, but I wanted to keep it for my shroud. Sa’ad ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) confirmed: “It was indeed his shroud.”

Here is one example among many of Our beloved Prophet ﷺ.

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was so generous that one could think that He did not fear misery

In this sense, Anas (RA) reported:

“Nothing was asked from the Messenger of Allah in Islam without him offering it. When a man came to him, he assigned him a flock of sheep between two mountains. Back to his tribe, he exclaimed, “O people! Convert yourself! Muhammad grants as one who does not fear misery. If someone wanted to be converted for material reasons, one did not have to wait long before Islam became more expensive in his eyes than the whole world. “

How many people could be so generous nowadays? He ﷺ is an example of generosity and kindness for us. May Allah have mercy on the companions and pious predecessors. May He allow us to perfect our behavior to draw closer to His Messenger ﷺ.
